Doing what you dream of!

By , January 27, 2011 8:09 am

I’m so inspired by this young guy called Huang who at the age of 26, spent 150 days traveling round his country Taiwan and record his journey using handstand in photos, videos and pictures! This seems such a crazy and meaningless activity but once you watch this video of his journey, you cannot help admire his spirit and beliefs!

Handstand all over the country!

How many people nowadays can give up certain things in their lives to do something crazy as these! :-)

Shaolin Movie: Freeing ourselves from the intrusion of memories of the past!

By , January 27, 2011 6:15 am

Achieving inner freedom through Zen

I watched the Shaolin movie 2011 with my sis the other day. The Shaolin monks have their own ways to deal with hatred, greed and desires, and I knew this was not easy.

The warlord in the story (played by Andy Lau) experienced misfortunes due to his arrogance and desires; and when he became a monk, he went through a personal journey of dealing with his past misfortunes. Indeed, this is a story of how one uses all his life’s circumstances, favorable and adverse, as catalysts for personal change.

“What’s the point of worrying about things that no longer exist and things that do not yet exist?”

Everyone of us has to deal with past and present misfortunes at one point or the other; and from my own personal experiences I knew how difficult it is to forget past stories and past memories.

Achieving inner freedom through Zen martial arts

I was moved to tears as I saw the beautiful and graceful shaolin martial arts being demonstrated on the screen. You can actually ‘fee’ the inner freedom being achieved by even the most troubled. However, learning and practicing martial arts only is not going to help you achieve inner freedom, you still have to work on your ‘mind’ and constantly feeding it with the ‘truth’. This is one cool movie. It simply tells us that freeing ourselves from the intrusion of past painful memories and fear of the future is very possible.

I pray to always remember such clarity and pure joy that allows me to accept things peacefully without sinking into passivity.

If you like martial arts, you will sure like the movie Wing Chun! When Nicholas Tse played in this Shaolin movie, you could still see that he remembered his Wing Chun kung fu moves!

Young man practicing calligraphy on the floor while selling fried red potato!

By , January 22, 2011 11:11 am

This man really knows how to make full use of his time! While selling fried red potato to make a living on the street.  Calligraphy is the art of creating beautiful or elegant handwriting using calligraphy markers or special brushes with nibs dipped in ink. But ink costs money, and this man uses a specially made big brush to practice his ‘calligraphy’ using just plain water to write on the floor!

Hardworking man

He’s so hardworking and inspiring! :)

On facing your enemies or the persons you hate!

By , January 17, 2011 2:36 am

How would you deal with your enemies or the persons you hate? Halfway through the drama “Great Merchant Kim Man Deok”, in find these inspiring advice and words.

“Like most people, You are just trying to survive in this world, aren’t you? Everyone, we are just trying hard to live in the best way that we know of and that we can. However, when those thoughts become greed, then we will hurt others or hate others. If you live with attachment to greed everyday, that kind of life itself will become a punishment for yourself. Even if I add on more unhappiness for you, I myself won’t feel that happy either.”

What is the sky?

By , January 17, 2011 2:19 am

Most of the times you do not have to look hard to find simple happiness in life. Today, walking boy boy to the park besides the sea makes me feel great to be alive. I relished the quiet of my early morning solitude at the park together with him.

As I looked up into the sky, I told boy boy to looked into the sky too. I invite the sky’s energy, power, beauty and peace into my being. I contrast its stability with my own approval-seeking energy, its effortless ‘being’ with my striving to do the right thing, and its natural and graceful essence with my desire to appear knowledgeable and beautiful and centered.

Each time that I found myself in approval-seeking mode, I stopped, breathed, and thought about the sky, thinking about just BEING, like the sky.

Is there a place that helps you return to your own powerful presence? Your needs are met, you are okay just the way you are.

Find it now, in your office, your home, your cubicle, when you are alone, when you are with a lot of people. Find out how you too can be grounded.

“What is the sky boy boy?”

Boy boy looked up towards the sky.

“Blue!”

I was so surprised by his answer!

Simple pleasures in life: pouring gold coins!

By , January 12, 2011 9:49 am

I discovered a simple pleasure in life today. Boy boy founded some gold coins on my bed today and began to filled up one of his toy cups with the gold coins, and finding another smaller empty cup, he started to pour the gold coins from one cup to the other.

He had to be very careful and concentrate in what he was doing; because one of the cups was smaller than the other. So, at times, he would miss his target and the coins would be poured out all over the floor. But he was not a bit frustrated even if he missed his target and all his gold coins poured all over the floor looking so messy. He simply looked so calm and so peaceful, as if he had all the time on his side.

He simply picked up all the coins one by one and began his pouring ritual all over again! So patient! I was prompted to do this simple ritual together with him and had a hilarious great time! haha! ;-)

simple pleasure in life!

He was sooooo focused in this simple ritual of pouring coins from one place to another that if you disturbed him a tiny bit and tried to distract him into doing something else, he would resist you! :)

Babies cannot keep my secret!

By , January 10, 2011 7:59 am

I didn’t really sleep well last night. Sometimes the loneliness overwhelms me, and I will have a difficult time sleeping early. In the morning I got up with a bad ulcer in my mouth, which is quite painful.

I showed it boy boy. “Did you see the big hole on my lips?” I asked him. Boy boy is barely two years old. I could see his eyes are getting bigger and bigger as he observed the big ‘hole’ on my mouth.

“It’s painful!” I told him, expecting to get some sympathy from him.

Instead, he quickly ran outside the room and announced to the adults in the living room. “MA!!! Aunt says her mouth is painful!!!”

baby has no secrets!

Haha! You can never keep a good secret with babies. They are so direct, and tell it like it is. But, boy boy teaches me a good lesson today.

My mentor once told me that it is no good to be too bright in life. If I can define everything in life so well, I will suffer he said. This is because my mind is too complicated and analyze everything down to the tiniest details. If this is me, then I will over-analyze a lot of things in life, human beings, life circumstances; and in this way i ended up being always being controlled by external circumstances and humans.

“What is a dog?” my master once asked me. If you say a dog is an animal with 4 legs, he will frown.

what is a dog?

“What is a dog?” I asked boy boy today.

“Woof woof…!” boy boy said. It’s what my master is looking for.

If you are always hurting in life, perhaps it is useful to ask yourself if you too have over-analyze everything! :)

The Great Merchant Kim Man Deok: “I do not believe in luck!”

By , January 9, 2011 2:26 pm

I’m halfway through my brand new DVD series The Great Merchant Kim Man Deok! It seems that this cool korean drama is little known. But I was curious about this woman called Kim Man Deok and wondered what the story was. I was not disappointed! Kim Man Deok is a strong woman who lived in ancient korea, and she is like the CEO of today during her time. When she was young, she had lived as a beggar, but ultimately became one of the greatest business-woman of her time.

If you are in the business world, you will know how difficult it is in reality to maintain your integrity and doing good businesses at the same time. It is not really easy. Most people are driven by greed and finally to self-destruction because of greed.

I was intrigued by her attitude and life philosophies towards dealing with her business competitors, enemies, and towards her co-workers who work together with her. In this story, she was always falling down. But with her silent strength and wits, she managed to pick herself up again, and again, and again, all the while maintaining that she should always do the right thing in life no matter what! She is also known to be committed towards philanthropy and charity giving!

“With regards to the concept of luck, I do not really believe in it. I have always believed that I’m a pretty unlucky person. However, what is so fortunate is that, heaven will not turn its golden wheel for those people who resigned themselves to their so-called ‘fate’, instead it will turn its golden wheel for those who constantly work hard and committed to choose to always ‘do the right thing’ in life.”

What is a tree?

By , January 9, 2011 1:54 pm

I’m watching lots of dramas nowadays and visited my local DVDs and video shops almost at least 3 times a week! Everyday I strive very hard to find reasons to be happy. Some days are hard, VERY hard. Some days are easy to pass by. Some days I think a lot. Some days I am at peace. But ‘peace’ is like an elusive butterfly. Sometimes it is there; sometimes it is not. And when it is not there, it is pure suffering. I know this might be an excuse. But while engrossed in good dramas, I was like being transported to another world.

In November, I met a mentor who told me to seek the answers I am looking for from the trees in the garden, from the butterflies flying in the air, and from children.

I asked the kid in my house today, what is a tree.
The boy said, “don’t know”

“What is a dog?” I asked.
“Don’t know…”

“What is a butterfly?”
“Don’t know…”

I was so surprised by boy boy’s answers. It seems like Master is right. Children, they have a lot to teach us. These are the answers Master is looking for, but it does not end here…

I like to share with you today an inspiring article i just read, there is this couple who were inspired by the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:40: “Whatever you have done for one of the least of my brothers, you have done for me.” And you know what they did? They reach out to the needy and opened a soup kitchen downtown to provide a meal and share their faith. Read full article here. I’m so touched by their kindness!

The Baker King: Patience is KEY!(You Must Wait!)

By , January 5, 2011 5:15 am

I just bought my new DVDs for The Baker King: Break, Love and Dreams!

Can’t imagine that an entire drama can be created using “making bread” as the main theme!

The story begins with the food cooperation SAMHWA chairman Goo In Jong unable to have a son with his wife, and ended up having an affair with the house maid Kim Mee-soon. A child is thus born and named Tak Goo. Furious, Goo’s wife Seoh In Sook forced the maid out of the house. Tak Goo grew up without his mother and father from 12 years of age. During his worst moments in life, he met his mentor Pal Bong (who is also his father’s master!) and his true love Yang Mi Seon. Even though he grew up without proper education and suffered discrimination from his rivals, he embraced his life by becoming the world’s best baker, following his father’s footstep.

The Baker King!

Director: Han Joon Seo
Sceenwriter: Kang Eun Kyung

I’m only halfway through the drama, but it’s pretty inspirational and motivating. You cannot help admire Tak Goo’s unbeatable spirit despite all the sufferings he have to go through. And his master Pal Bong is just like the jedi master. During the time when Tak Goo is still behaving like a gangster on the street, with no skills and no education, unable to find his mother and can’t determine his destiny in life, Tak Goo asked Pal Bong how to live on without being able to find his mother.

Pal Bong said to him: “You must wait” (and Pal Bong said that to him while demonstrating to him how to make bread!)

“So that the bread bakes well, you must wait so that it bakes deliciously.”

And when Tak Goo asked Pal Bong what he can do the hatred and anger he has with his enemies, Pal Bong said, “This means that you have not been living as a good person. Living life as a good person means getting rid of hate, anger and dislike. When your mom told you to live life as a good person, this is what she meant, Don’t hate and don’t get angry, understand and forgive, then can’t you dominate the world?”

If you have a difficult life, am hurting right now, and unable to see clearly what your future is and what is going to come, “you can only patiently wait, and you must wait”. Isn’t it wonderful? If you cannot change what is happening right now, there is no use to worry about it. If you cannot control what the future is going to bring you, there is no use to worry about it. You can only patiently wait. But whatever it is, heaven will help those who always ‘choose‘ to do the right thing in life, no matter how difficult things get!

Can’t even forget what the master told the father:

“rest occasionally as you work

look at the sky and look at the mountains

and occasionally look at the people around you

everything’s great about you but

you only race while looking ahead.

That’s why you cannot be happy.”

I’m just beginning to watch this amazing and cool chinese drama which I just bought from a local dvd shop. It’s called Detective (chinese titled 女神捕). I will usually only recommend cool dramas and movies that I’ve watched here. This two weeks I’ve already completed the chinese drama called Wing Chun, and I finish up the whole of the 40 episodes. The whole drama was made with sincerity, and I’m so touched by certain parts of the stories that I cried, just because it can depict the conflicts between father and son, friends and friends, even between lovers so real just like in real life.

This week I’m starting on yet another korean drama that my friend has recommended me. I have not yet finished up with this drama, but it seems like it will be one funny and cool drama.
